President Aidarous Qassem Al-Zubaidi, President of the Southern Transitional Council (STC) and Vice Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council (PLC), met today, Monday, in the Saudi capital Riyadh with HE Mark Donovan, Ambassador of Australia to Saudi Arabia and Yemen.
The meeting discussed the latest developments in the country’s political and economic landscape, efforts to end the war and establish lasting peace, and ways in which the government can be supported in implementing comprehensive reforms in state institutions.
During the meeting, President Al-Zubaidi expressed his hope that Australia would play an active role in supporting the PLC and the government to implement comprehensive reforms in state institutions as a fundamental step to restore sovereign economic resources, chief among them the resumption of oil exports as the true lever to revive the economy and fulfill the people’s aspirations for improved living and public services.
On the peace process, President Al-Zubaidi once again reiterated that any political initiative must be founded on realistic premises, taking into account on-the-ground developments and regional military conditions, particularly following the recent strike on Iran, adding that a peaceful settlement cannot be considered with a group designated as terrorist that continues its military and economic escalation.
For his part, the Australian Ambassador reaffirmed his country’s support for the government’s institutional reforms and its readiness to expand cooperation in vital sectors like infrastructure projects and the electricity sector in coordination with international partners and the World Bank, and affirmed that Australia regards stability in Yemen as an important factor for the stability and security of the entire region.
