President Al-Zubaidi Discusses with UK Ambassador Recent Humanitarian and Political Developments in the Country

President Aidarous Qassem Al-Zubaidi, President of the Southern Transitional Council (STC) and Vice Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council (PLC), received on Thursday evening H.E. Abda Sharif, the UK Ambassador to Yemen.

At the beginning of the meeting, both sides reviewed the historic bilateral relations with the United Kingdom and discussed ways to promote and solidify these ties for the common interests of the two friendly countries.

The meeting discussed recent developments related to the political and humanitarian aspects in the country in light of the ongoing Houthi escalation and the impact of regional changes on the humanitarian situation. In this regard, President Al-Zubaidi highlighted the role of the United Kingdom in mobilizing humanitarian and development support to alleviate the severe economic crisis caused by the war ignited by the Houthi militias and their ongoing terrorism by land and sea.

President Al-Zubaidi expressed his appreciation for the efforts exerted by the International Quartet, alongside our official brothers in the coalition countries, in backing the PLC and its strategic plans aimed at reviving the deteriorating economy, improving basic public services for citizens, countering the terrorism of the Houthi militias, and restoring security, stability, and development in the country.

For her part, the UK ambassador reiterated her government's commitment to continuing its efforts in mobilizing international humanitarian support by organizing donor conferences to support the humanitarian response in Yemen and expressed that the government of her country is well-positioned to assist in vital service sectors like electricity and power generation projects, leveraging its expertise in the field.

Ambassador Abda Sharif reaffirmed the commitment of the government of her country to backing the PLC and its efforts to counter the threats posed by Houthi militia terrorism in vital international shipping lanes.
