President Aidarous Qassem Al-Zoubaidi, President of the Southern Transitional Council (STC) and Vice Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council (PLC), arrived on Friday morning in the city of Dubai in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to participate in the World Climate Summit (COP28), which began on Thursday and continues until December 12.
President Al-Zoubaidi is scheduled to attend today the presidential events of the summit, which will be hosted by the Dubai Exhibition Center - Expo, most notably the opening of the World Climate Action Summit, in which a large number of presidents, leaders, and representatives of international organizations specializing in addressing the risks of climate change will be present, led by UN Secretary-General Mr. António Guterres.
During his participation in the summit, the efforts of President Al-Zoubaidi will mainly focus on brining about solutions to address the impact of climate change in South Yemen and highlight the humanitarian situation that our people are experiencing, the extent of the risks that the war has created for the environmental situation, in addition to water scarcity and desertification and not to mention the devastating effects on the biodiversity marine life, and ways to mobilize regional and international efforts to coordinate support for the country in a way that enables it to mitigate the devastating effects of the conflict on the environment, natural resources, and infrastructure, which have greatly been affected since the outbreak of the war in 2015.
President Al-Zoubaidi will also discuss ways to enhance the funding provided by donor countries to help the country alleviate the impact of climate change and develop national capabilities to cope with its effects and mitigate its repercussions.
