The Rights and Freedoms Department Meets the Representative of the High Commissioner for Human Rights

  Member of Presidency of the Southern Transitional Council and head of Rights and Freedoms Department, Lawyer Niran Hassan Souki met in Aden with the human rights officer in the office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, Yousra Mohammed al-Bakri, in presence of the head of fact-finding committee in the STC Rights and Freedoms Department, Dr. Ali Hadi.

  The meeting focused on the report submitted by the STC Rights and Freedoms Department to the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights in Geneva. They discussed the three-day incidents of last January in the capital Aden and the serious violations committed by the jihadi militias loyal to the Yemeni vice president Ali Mohsen al-Ahmar, al-Islah party and some military leaders against the civilians who gathered peacefully in al-Huria Square in the city of Aden. A documented video was presented at the meeting showing wounded children and civilians; victims of targeted attack of al-Islah militias in the city of Khormaksar.

  The OHCHR representative emphasized the need to respect human rights, particularly of women and children that should not be subjected to violations. She praised the fruitful meeting between the Council and the Office and the content of the report presented by the STC Rights and Freedoms Department for its integrity, honesty and credibility. "We are partners in the protection of human rights and we will be one team to protect civilians and protect human rights under international humanitarian law and international human rights law" she said.
