The Southern Transitional Council / Cultural Department offers condolences on the death of the great musician Abu Baker Salem Belfkih who passed away after a distinctive life full of giving that enriched the art scene in the Arab world.
The Presidency of the Southern Transitional Council highly praised the virtues of the legendary singer, songwriter, composer and poet Abu Baker Salem Belfkih, considering his departure as a great loss for the homeland and the Arab world and will leave a void in the art scene.
Belfkih died at the age of 78 due to illness on Sunday, he was known for numerous musical styles common to the Gulf, predominantly Hadhrami and Adani. Throughout his 60-year-long career, Belfkih was distinguished by his versatile vocal range, which enabled him to perform over a wide array of complex compositions.
Born in Tarim in Hadhrumaut, Belfkih started out as an Arabic language teacher and was a patron of the arts and literature. He moved to Saudi Arabia in the 70s after his travels to Aden, Beirut, Jeddah and Cairo till he settled down in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia.
