President Al-Zubaidi to 'DW News': The two-state solution is the ultimate way to resolve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

President Aidarous Qassem Al-Zubaidi, President of the Southern Transitional Council (STC) and Vice Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council (PLC), in an interview with DW’s Ben Fajzullin at the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Switzerland, praised the return of President Donald Trump as key to curbing the Iran-backed Houthis and called for a stronger U.S.-led assault on the rebel group.

Indicating that the Houthis have been attacking commercial Western vessels in the Red Sea, in what they said was solidarity with Palestinians in the war between Israel and Hamas in Gaza. Therefore, President Al-Zubaidi highlighted the principle of the two-state solution in accordance with the Arab initiative presented by the late Saudi King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, which was endorsed at the Arab Summit held in Beirut in 2002.

Regarding the resolving of the conflict in Yemen and the region and bringing about a lasting peace, President Al-Zubaidi urged the Arab and international community to join up efforts, with a focus on militarily deterring the Houthis and the need to bolster our military capabilities with advanced weapons to form an equal deterrence to Houthi attacks.

President Al-Zubaidi also touched on the worsening humanitarian and economic crisis and the collapse of the local currency, which has negatively affected the daily living conditions of the people, underscoring that a return to the prior 1990 situation will positively contribute to improving the economic and political conditions and boost security and stability in Yemen and the region.
