Major General Ben Brik meets Head of International Committee of Red Cross in Aden the capital

Major General Ahmed Saeed bin Brik, Acting President of the Southern Transitional Council, Chairman of the National Assembly, met, on Thursday, at the headquarter of the National Assembly, the delegation of the International Committee of the Red Cross in Aden the capital, headed by the head of the mission, Mr. François Stam, and in the presence of lawyer Niran Souki, Vice-Chairman of the National Assembly for Legal Affairs, and Patias Comfat, deputy head of mission at the International Committee of the Red Cross in the capital Aden.

The meeting discussed ways of coordination and joint cooperation between the ICRC delegation and the Southern Transitional Council, and stressing on the importance of continuing the ICRC delegation its work in supporting of humanitarian, relief, and awareness activities.

The Chairman of the National Assembly stressed on the necessity of the expansion of the ICRC's activities in the eastern regions, specifically in Hadhramaut, Al Mahrah and Socotra, to confront diseases and epidemics in those governorates, and discussed the possibility of opening a committee office in Mukalla, the capital of Hadhramaut governorate, linked to their main office in Aden .

Maj. Gen. Ben Brik expressed the willingness of the Transitional Council to provide the possible to facilitate the activities of the ICRC delegation and overcome all the difficulties it may face, noting that the Transitional Council welcomes all international organizations and missions working in the capital Aden and the rest of the provinces.

For his part, the Head of the International Committee of the Red Cross in Aden the capital, Mr. Francois Stam, expressed thanks and appreciation to the President of the Transitional Council, and the Chairman of the National Assembly for their continuous efforts to support the activities of the ICRC delegation, providing an explanation of the activities and programs of the Committee during the coming period in the capital Aden and the southern governorates and ways of providing humanitarian assistance.

Mr. Stam previewed the visits undertaken by their mission to Al-Dhalea governorate, Lahj, and others, and their evaluation of the results of those visits and the possibilities to rehabilitate the prisons, and provide assistance to the vulnerable groups and local communities in which the displaced people are located.

The meeting was attended by Dr. Salem Al-Shabahi, Head of the Health and Environment Committee in the National Assembly, Bahaa Al-Salami, Assistant Head of Mission, and Mohammad Muriya, translator and employee of the Protection Department of the International Committee of the Red Cross in the capital Aden.
