The STC Local Leadership in Almahrah Issues Statement

The local leadership executive body (LLEB) of the Southern Transitional Council (STC) in Almahra Governorate is closely monitoring with grave concern the serious security developments unfolding in the governorate since Tuesday morning, July 8, 2025, began with the arrest of a Houthi leader at the Sarfait border crossing with Oman. This was followed by armed clashes and an armed attack targeting security forces in an apparent attempt to free the detained commander, resulting in the death of a martyr from the heroes of the Ghaydah axis forces and a number of wounded.

We express our deep regret at these unfortunate events and reiterate our warning about the danger of the growing influence of non-official armed groups and militias, which have become a safe haven for Houthi and suspected elements and actively seek to disturb public tranquility and destabilize security and social peace in Almahrah Governorate.

What is happening constitutes a dangerous indicator of the scale of security challenges facing the governorate and clearly reveals the existence of suspicious alliances between the Houthis and certain local actors to force through projects that threaten national sovereignty and undermine the stability of Almahra.

In this context, the LLEB in Almahrah Governorate emphasizes the following:

1. We categorically reject any attempts to drag the governorate into the realm of conflict and chaos and warn against exploiting certain groups to cover or be lenient with outlawed groups at the expense of public security.

2. We mourn the martyr from the Al-Ghaydah Axis forces, wish the heroic wounded a speedy recovery, and reaffirm their pure blood will not be shed in vain, and will remain an enduring testament to the ultimate sacrifices made by Almahra’s honorable citizens for their governorate’s safety and stability.

3. We commend the role of the local authority, along with military and security institutions, and salute the dignified and patriotic stance of the tribal sheikhs and notables of Almahra Governorate; their wise actions helped spare the governorate further bloodshed and facilitated the transfer of the detained leader from Sarfait crossing to downtown Al-Ghaydah, demonstrating their cooperation with official institutions to reinforce security.

4. We also applaud the security vigilance demonstrated at Sarfait crossing and extend our thanks to our brothers in the Sultanate of Oman for their positive role and constructive facilitation in resolving operational issues facing the crossing. We reaffirm that Almahra will remain a secure strategic depth for its neighbors, not a source from which unrest is exported, and that the STC’s local leadership will continue to preserve strong neighborly relations and prevent any threats emanating from its territory toward its brethren countries.

5. We call on security services and military forces to uphold the state authority and deal decisively with armed groups operating outside the law.

6. We urge an immediate and transparent investigation to uncover the circumstances of the incident and hold accountable anyone found complicit or negligent, regardless of their rank.

7. We demand that the government and local authorities take a clear and decisive stance regarding the presence of these armed groups and not tolerate their activity or their role in fueling conflict.

8. We emphasize the need to reorganize security at land crossings and along international highways, tightening control to prevent their use by groups hostile to the national project.

9. We call upon citizens of Almahra Governorate to rapprochement and form a united front against chaos and projects of subjugation, denying opportunities to those jeopardizing the governorate's security and safety.

In conclusion, we reaffirm that the LLEB of the Transitional Council in Almahra will remain at the forefront—alongside all honorable citizens—to protect Almahra’s security, defend its dignity and status, and will not tolerate it becoming a conflict zone or transit corridor for militias.
