President Al-Zubaidi Discusses Supporting Post-Conflict Reconstruction with UNDP Assistant Secretary-General

President Aidarous Qassem Al-Zubaidi, President of the Southern Transitional Council (STC) and Vice-Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council (PLC), on the sidelines of his participation in the UN General Assembly in New York, met with Mr. Abdullah Al-Dardari, Assistant Secretary-General and Director of the Regional Bureau for Arab States, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

At the beginning of the meeting, President Al-Zubaidi lauded the efforts made by the UNDP and its interventions in development and infrastructure projects in the country, asserting the readiness of the PLC and the government to provide all facilities for the work of the program and other humanitarian organizations operating in various parts of the country.

In the context of his speech to the UNDP Assistant Secretary-General, President Al-Zubaidi expressed his aspiration for the UNDP to play a greater role in rebuilding what was destroyed by the war.

For his part, the UNDP Assistant Secretary-General expressed his pleasure in meeting with President Al-Zubaidi, affirming the readiness of the UNDP to strengthen its support for the country and the readiness of the program to send a team of experts to coordinate with the government in preparing studies and determining priorities in the short, medium, and long term.

Mr. Al-Dardari pointed out the importance of involving the private sector in the development and implementation of infrastructure projects, especially in the fields of energy and water.
