The STC Presidium Discusses Progress in Economic Recovery Program and Highlights Concerted Efforts to Sustain Improvements

The Presidium of the Southern Transitional Council (STC) held its regularly scheduled meeting today, Thursday, headed by President Aidarous Qassem Al-Zubaidi, President of the STC, in the presence of the STC's ministers and deputy ministers in the government and heads of the bodies in the General Secretariat.

At the beginning of the meeting, President Al-Zubaidi reviewed the overall achievements of the Supreme Committee for Sovereign and Local Resources within the comprehensive reform program covering economic, financial, and administrative aspects across ministries and institutions and highlighted efforts to revive the economy, lower prices, stabilize the currency exchange rate, ensure salary payments, and improve public services for citizens.

President Al-Zubaidi praised the harmony and coordination demonstrated by ministries, local authorities, security services, the local leadership executive bodies (LLEBs) of the STC, and community committees in governorates and districts in implementing the decisions of the Supreme Resources Committee, which included stabilizing the exchange rate, preventing currency speculation, lowering prices, monitoring markets, and overseeing the provision of essential goods at reasonable prices in line with the improved exchange rate.

The president emphasized that the economic and service gains achieved were not a fleeting boom but the result of painstaking efforts over the past years, noting that the current economic improvements would remain contingent on the full and decisive implementation of reforms, which require complete solidarity among financial, governmental, and security institutions to ensure sustainability.

In the same context, the Presidium welcomed the government’s recent decision to ban foreign currency in commercial transactions and mandate revenue-generating bodies to deposit revenues into the government’s public account at the Central Bank, stressing the importance of swift implementation by relevant authorities and strict monitoring from oversight bodies, given its critical role in maintaining the stability of the local currency.

The Presidium also commended the monitoring measures carried out by field teams from the Ministry of Industry and Trade offices and local authorities to penalize violators who disregard approved price lists and combat illegal practices harming the economy and placing further burdens on citizens.

Administratively, the meeting listened to a report from the General Secretariat detailing the performance of its bodies over the past two weeks, including progress in finalizing arrangements for deploying presidential oversight teams to governorates and university coordination bodies.

In this respect, President Al-Zubaidi lauded efforts in preparing plans for urgent priorities to be implemented by the LLEBs in governorates, which will be closely followed by presidential teams to ensure effective execution and tangible results on the ground.

At the end of the meeting, the Presidium received a detailed report on the meetings held by the STC's delegation in the Jordanian capital, Amman, with the European Union mission, the UN Envoy’s office, and ambassadors from several friendly countries.
