The Presidium of the Southern Transitional Council (STC) held its regular meeting today, Thursday, chaired by Mr. Ali Abdullah Al-Kathiri, Acting President of the STC and Chairman of the National Assembly, in the presence of the STC's ministers in government and heads of the auxiliary bodies.
The Presidium of the STC focused on the latest developments in the South, particularly the events in Abyan and Hadhramaut, commending the patriotic stances of the people of Abyan, as demonstrated in recent meetings of tribal sheikhs, notables, dignitaries, and local officials, through which they have reaffirmed their support for the STC and its political leadership, pledging to back the efforts of the Southern Armed Forces in combating terrorist organizations with the aim of bolstering security and stability while firmly opposing calls for sowing discord and division among the people of the Southern homeland.
The presidium pointed out that the popular movement that took place in Abyan governorate during the past week reflects the true value of its people, their unwavering patriotism and commitment to the Southern Homeland, and an affirmation that Abyan and its people have always been, and will definitely remain to be, a cornerstone and bedrock of the national struggle and a steadfast supporter of efforts to maintain security, stability, and the pursuit of the aspirations of our people for freedom and independence.
In the same context, the Presidium reaffirmed its support for the outcomes of the expanded meeting of the STC's leadership in Hadramaut Governorate, which led to the formation of a liaison committee to unify ranks, advocate for the rights of the governorate, and support the Hadrami Elite Forces, emphasizing that this step comes within the framework of the Council's keenness and commitment to defending the rights of Hadramaut and the aspirations of its people to manage the affairs of their governorate, as well as maintaining continued communication with various segments of society in the governorate.
The Presidium has urged on the people of Hadramaut to support this committee and actively participate in its efforts to enhance dialogue and understanding among the people of the governorate and to activate their role in building the future of Hadramaut within the framework of the Southern national project.
In a separate context, the Presidium expressed its appreciation for the ultimate sacrifices that have been made by the Southern Armed Forces and their continuing efforts in combating terrorism and confronting extremist groups throughout the South, noting that these efforts reflect a firm commitment by our armed forces to combating terrorism in all its forms and consolidating security and stability in the South and the region.
In its meeting, the Presidium touched on the intensive military build-up in the northern and western frontlines near Al-Azariq in Al-Dale'a and in the areas of al-Musaimir and Karsh in Lahj, asserting that these movements, which come at a sensitive time when regional and international efforts are underway to advance peace efforts, reflect the Houthis' usual aggressive approach of spurning efforts to de-escalate and find a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
At the end of the meeting, the Presidium discussed a range of organizational topics and issues related to the work of the various bodies of the STC and took the appropriate measures.
