Mr. Abdul Rahman Abu Zara'a Al-Muharrami, Deputy President of the Southern Transitional Council (STC) and Vice Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council (PLC), met on Saturday morning with the US ambassador to Yemen, Mr. Steven Fagin, to discuss the latest developments in the situation and efforts to achieve peace, as well as regional and international developments.
The meeting, which was held at the Yemen embassy in Abu Dhabi and attended by Yemen's ambassador to the UAE, Mr. Fahd Al-Menhali, reviewed a range of economic and service challenges faced by people as a result of the ongoing terrorist attacks by the Houthi militia. Moreover, the meeting highlighted the negative impacts of these acts on international shipping lanes, which have exacerbated the living conditions of citizens. In this context, Mr. Al-Muharrami stressed the importance of supporting the legitimate government in restoring state institutions, implementing further economic and administrative reforms, and securing essential services for citizens.
Politically, Mr. Al-Muharrami discussed with the US ambassador the UN-led efforts to revive the political process aimed at ending the conflict in the country and restoring peace in the region, particularly in light of the ongoing Houthi escalation in the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandab and its impact on the humanitarian situation.
Al-Muharrami reiterated the council's support for regional and international efforts to achieve sustainable peace, lauding the support provided by the USA to the PLC and the government in this regard.
He also called on the international community to take more decisive measures to deter the Houthi militia and thwart their attempts to undermine efforts to end the war and establish peace in the region.
For his part, Ambassador Fagin reiterated his government's commitment to supporting the PLC and the government in fulfilling their responsibilities to the people. He reaffirmed the United States' rejection of the Houthi escalation in the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandab, underscoring Washington's keenness to secure international shipping lanes and its support for regional and international efforts to bring about peace in the country.
