The Southern Transitional Council (STC) has held a ceremony to commemorate the first anniversary of the martyr commander Abdul Latif Al-Sayyid and his comrades, as well as the second anniversary of the launch of the military operation "Arrows of the East" under the patronage of STC President Aidrous Al-Zubaidi.
The event was attended by Mr. Ali Abdullah Al-Kathiri, Acting President of the STC and Chairman of the National Assembly; Mr. Fadl Al-Jaadi, Secretary-General of the General Secretariat; his assistant for governorate affairs, Mr. Mohammed Al-Shaqqi; a number of STC officials; ministers in the government; and military and security leaders.
During the commemorating event, President Aidarous Al-Zubaidi, President of the STC, delivered a recorded speech in which he stressed that the martyr Sayyid was a symbol of sacrifice and redemption and the line of the most magnificent heroic epics in order to defend his land and people, praising his outstanding role in the "Arrows of the East" military operation, which achieved important victories in the fight against terrorism.
In commemorating the martyrdom of the heroic commander Abdul Latif Al-Sayed, we reaffirm our commitment to continuing his struggle and working diligently to achieve the goals of our people of the South," stated the President. His excellency added, "We will never forget the sacrifices of our noble martyrs and will strive to immortalize their memory and fulfill their hopes and aspirations.
The President called on all the people of the South to join hands and stand united in the face of challenges and conspiracies aimed at our just cause, stressing the continuation of the struggle to restore the state of the South.
The governor of Abyan, Major General Abu Bakr Hussein, delivered a speech expressing Abyan's deep sorrow over the loss of its protector, who was martyred a year ago today at the hands of terrorists. He highlighted the martyr’s tireless efforts in defending Abyan, describing him as a right-hand man in resolving numerous issues and challenges facing the governorate.
Hussein said that terrorism is a scourge, and there are those who plan and finance them to take advantage of them for political purposes, and convoys of martyrs of the South have fallen in order to defend the land and confront them, thanking President Aidrus Al-Zubaidi for this kind gesture to organize this event.
The martyr’s brother, Brigadier General Haidera Al-Sayyid, commander of the Security Belt Forces in Abyan, delivered a speech emphasizing that the martyr and his comrades had paved the way for a national struggle against terrorism. He highlighted how these elements had targeted the security and stability of Abyan, subjecting the people to various forms of suffering and displacement. Al-Sayyid noted the numerous assassination attempts against his brother, vowing that the martyr’s sacrifice and that of all martyrs of the South would not be in vain. He pledged to continue their struggle until the restoration of the state of the South.
The martyr's brother expressed gratitude to the STC's political leadership, led by President Aidrous Al-Zubaidi, for their efforts in organizing this ceremony and publishing a book documenting the martyr's life. He also thanked whoever contributed to the preparation and organization of the event.
Mr. Abdul-Raqeeb al-Sunidi, speaking on behalf of the event's organizing committee, paid tribute to the significant sacrifices made by martyr Abdul Latif Al-Sayyid in the fight against terrorism. He highlighted Al-Sayyid’s history of heroic actions, focusing on his pivotal role in combating terrorism, particularly during the "Arrows of the East" military operation. In closing, gratitude was expressed to all those who contributed to the success of the event. The importance of continuing the struggle for freedom and independence was emphasized.
The commemoration included poetry recitals that expressed sadness at the loss of the late heroic leader Abdul Latif Al-Sayyid and then a film screening that documented the martyr’s life and his heroism in combating terrorism.
