President Al-Zubaidi Discusses with US Ambassador Recent Economic and Security Developments

President Aidarous Qassem Al-Zubaidi, President of the Southern Transitional Council (STC) and Vice Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council (PLC), virtually met today, Thursday, with HE Steven H. Fagin, U.S. Ambassador to Yemen.

The meeting discussed the recent developments in the country, as well as the efforts undertaken by the PLC to tackle the key economic challenges stemming from the ongoing war waged by the Houthi militias against our people, focusing on the militias' targeting of vital economic facilities, primarily oil and gas export ports.

The meeting touched on the latest developments related to the US decision to designate the Houthi militia as a foreign terrorist organization (FTO), as well as the measures required at the local level once the decision comes into effect.

In this regard, President Al-Zubaidi reiterated his welcome of the U.S. decision, describing the recent actions taken by the U.S. Treasury to impose sanctions on senior Houthi leaders as a victory for justice in light of the crimes they have been committing against the defenseless civilians since igniting the absurd war in 2015.

President Al-Zubaidi underscored that designating the militias as an FTO marks the beginning of the end for the terrorism they perpetrate on land and at sea, highlighting the importance of coordination among regional and international partners to act swiftly to enforce the designation, which would deter the militias' terrorism and dismantle their military capabilities, which pose a threat to both regional and international security and stability.
