Major General Faraj Salmeen Al-Bahsani, Vice President of the Southern Transitional Council (STC) and Vice-Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council (PLC), was briefed on Tuesday in the capital, Aden, on the activities and tasks of the Supreme National Authority For Combating Corruption (SNACC) and what has been substantially implemented.
It took place during the meeting with Judge Afrah Badwilan, head of the SNACC, in the presence of two members of the Authority, Mr. Hassan Shukri and Mr. Hussein Barja, in which he listened to a broad explanation of the nature of its workflow, tasks, jurisdictions, and powers as per the law, highlighting what the SNACC has implemented since resuming its work from the Capital, Aden, in probing investigations into corruption cases to protect public money, assets, and resources.
Major General Al-Bahsani got familiarized, from the head of the SNACC, with its duties and responsibilities as per the UN Convention as an authority to combat corruption, the self-assessment report for chapters II and V of the same agreement, the level of commitment to implement the provisions of the convention, as well as the confidence that the UN has given to the SNACC to review the implementation of the obligations of a number of countries to the UN Convention Against Corruption.
Judge Badwilan touched on the most prominent corruption cases that the SNACC investigated in various economic and service sectors to assist the Council and the government in drying up the sources of corruption and also reviewed the economic and development plans and ideas prepared by the SNACC to improve the economic and living conditions of citizens.
Major General Al-Bahsani lauded the efforts made by the headship of the SNACC in accordance with its legal powers since its establishment, stressing the importance of performing its tasks and jurisdictions in full independence and impartiality without any interference in its affairs and responsibilities.
Similarly, Al-Bahsani underpinned the authority's efforts in the field of raising awareness through the educational media discourse to officials and employees to raise their awareness and educate them on the dangers of corruption, urging them to adhere to integrity, and reiterated the council's support for all steps taken by the SNACC to enable it to fully assume its responsibilities in combating corruption.
