The Southern Transitional Council (STC) strongly condemns the cowardly terrorist attack that took place this afternoon in Al Turbah area of Taiz Governorate, Southwest Yemen, and targeted the dedicated staff of the United Nations World Food Program, resulting in the tragic loss of Mr. Moayad Hamidi, the Program Director, and causing injuries to others.
The STC firmly asserts that such criminal acts, which aim to undermine the noble and humanitarian work carried out by the United Nations teams, can only be attributed to an extremist terrorist ideology. This ideology has been previously warned against, with specific references to its hideouts and command structures.
The gravity of this abhorrent crime necessitates immediate and decisive action from all parties. It is imperative to swiftly apprehend the perpetrators and those responsible for orchestrating this attack and hold them accountable. Additionally, the eradication of the safe havens for these terrorist elements and the severing of their intellectual and material support networks are crucial steps in preventing future acts of terror.
While we denounce this heinous terrorist act, we extend our heartfelt condolences and sympathy to the family of the UN employee who lost his life and to the families of his injured colleagues.
Ali Abdullah Al Kathiri
Official Spokesperson of the STC and Member of the Presidency
