Economic Department of the General Secretariat organizes first scientific workshop on "Fisheries in South"

The Economic Department in the General Secretariat of the Presidency of the Southern Transitional Council inaugurated on Wednesday in Aden the capital, the first scientific workshop on "Fisheries wealth in the South ... the current reality and the challenges", with the participation of researchers and specialists in the field of marine science and fisheries sector from Aden the capital, and the southern governorates.

The Assistant Secretary General of the Presidency of the Southern Transitional Council, Fadhl Mohamed Al-Jadi, delivered a speech saying: "this workshop comes after the first economic conference, within the Transitional Council's interest in rebuilding the economic bases of the south on the way of restoring the state and its institutions.

Al-Jadi emphasized that the fish sector is one of the important resources that raises the national economic  income, as the south is rich with this wealth along its coasts.

Al-Jadi in his speech wished the participants success in this workshop and coming up with practical scientific outputs that will benefit the southern economy.

Dr. Abdul-Qawi Al-Solh, Head of the Economic Department in the General Secretariat of the Presidency of the Southern Transitional Council, opened the workshop by stressing on the keenness of the Southern Transitional Council to develop the fisheries sector, which is considered a national wealth, and can be useful if it is used in a rational manner.

Al-Solh added: "It is important to support this sector by studying its conditions in a scientific techniques to be preserved and rebuilt, and we hope that we will come up with recommendations that serve the society positively by reforming the fisheries sector."

The workshop discussed over its two days period several papers related to four main topics, which are: "Protecting and regulating the use of fisheries wealth", and " Marine Environment and Fish Resources", "Fisheries Cooperatives and Associations and traditional fishing", and "Investing in the fisheries sector, its problems and prospects for development".

The workshop on its final day witnessed gathering groups discussion on its topics, and concluded by delivering the participants their observations and recommendations on the presented papers for the outputs statement to be formulated in the light of the recommendations provided by the specialists and experts participating in the workshop.
