Al-Muharrami Highlights Key U.S. Role in Bolstering the Country's Capabilities to Confront Challenges

Mr. Abdulrahman Al-Muharrami, Deputy President of the Southern Transitional Council (STC) and Vice Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council (PLC), underscored the pivotal role of the United States of America (USA) in backing legitimacy and bolstering the country's capabilities in confronting security and economic challenges and highlighted its importance in countering terrorist threats posed by the Iranian-backed Houthi militia.

This came during his virtual meeting today, Tuesday, with US Ambassador to Yemen, HE Steven H. Fagin, where they discussed the prospects of strengthening and promoting bilateral relations at all levels, particularly security and military cooperation, counter-terrorism, coast guard, securing international maritime routes, and deterring Houthi terrorist attacks on shipping lanes and commercial shipping vessels.

The meeting reviewed recent developments on both the national and regional landscapes, as well as the current economic and humanitarian challenges facing the country, in addition to the ongoing efforts to support the comprehensive reform program and strengthen the capabilities of law enforcement authorities, all of which aim to alleviate the suffering of citizens and improve their living and economic stability.

Mr. Al-Muharrami expressed hope for increased international support, particularly from the US, in the economic and development fields, in order to stabilize the local currency and support the government's urgent priorities in the sectors of public services to alleviate the suffering of citizens amid the exceptional circumstances the country is going through, praising the firm US position in backing the PLC and the government and Washington's keenness to safeguard regional security, dry up sources of terrorist financing, and ban Iranian weapons smuggled to the Houthi militia.

For his part, U.S. Ambassador Fagin reaffirmed Washington’s unwavering support for the country's security and stability, pledging continued cooperation with the PLC and the government to address current challenges, advance peace efforts, and promote lasting security in Yemen and the entire region.
