Mr. Ali Abdullah Al-Kathiri, Acting President of the Southern Transitional Council (STC) and Chairman of the National Assembly, received on Wednesday in his office in the capital, Aden, with Ms. Dina Al-Ma'amoun, the regional director of the international organization "Civils in Conflict" (CIVIC).
Mr. Al-Kathiri was briefed by Ms. Dina Al-Mamoun on the nature of the organization’s mission, activities, and programs implemented in the previous period with a focus on humanitarian aspects and safeguarding civilians in war-torn and conflict-ridden areas.
Al-Kathiri listened to a brief explanation of the programs, courses, and training workshops that the organization intends to organize during the next phase in the capital, Aden, and liberated areas, in coordination with security services and local authorities. The aim is to educate members of the armed forces and security personnel on mechanisms to safeguard civilians during conflict and security operations and to familiarize them with the most important guiding principles that must be adhered to.
During the meeting, Al-Kathiri stressed the significance of raising awareness and guidance programs that the organization provides to members of the armed forces and security personnel and expressed the STC's readiness, as well as its security leadership and relevant authorities, to cooperate and coordinate with the organization and facilitate the work of its teams.
Al-Kathiri also affirmed the STC’s welcome of the active contribution to implementing and approving the procedures of the Code of Conduct for the Armed and Security Forces to protect civilians. This move is expected to enhance the performance of the Southern Armed Forces and security services in safeguarding civilians during security and military operations and preventing any harm or violence that may happen to them. In the same context, he highlighted the need to expand the organization's scope to encompass the whole South.
For her part, the Regional Director of the CIVIC and her accompanying delegation expressed their deep thanks to the Acting President of the STC for the warm reception and their appreciation for the STC's support and readiness to provide the required facilities to the organization’s work team.
The meeting was attended by the organization's safety officer, Mr. Awad Ba-Obaid, and the organization's official of public relations with government bodies, Mr. Iskandar Youssef.
