Mr. Ali Abdullah Al-Kathiri, Acting President of the Southern Transitional Council (STC) and Chairman of the National Assembly, met today, Wednesday, with the head of the “Hands of Peace” initiative in Abyan Governorate, Ms. Arwa Abu Bakr Basuhaim.
During the meeting, which was attended by Brigadier General Pilot Nasser Al-Saadi, Head of the Community Commission assisting the Presidium of the STC, the situation of undocumented immigrants from the Horn of Africa who are influxing in large numbers in Abyan Governorate via the coast was discussed, highlighting the serious health and social risks posed by this influx to Abyan and the South in general.
Mr. Al-Kathiri stressed the urgency of submitting a comprehensive report on the situation of refugees in the camp located in the Tamhen area of Abyan, given the severe security, economic, and social challenges posed by undocumented immigration. He also called on relevant international organizations to play their part in assisting the authorities in providing a suitable health and humanitarian environment for the refugees and in finding effective solutions to this complex issue.
