Mr. Ali Abdullah Al-Kathiri, Acting President of the Southern Transitional Council (STC) and Chairman of the National Assembly, met today, Tuesday, in his office with Mr. Julien Harneis, the United Nations Resident Coordinator and head of the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).
Mr. Al-Kathiri discussed with Mr. Harneis the urgent need for humanitarian interventions and the required response to developmental projects carried out by OCHA in the governorates of the South and liberated areas. The meeting highlighted the vital role OCHA plays in fulfilling humanitarian needs, working alongside partner organizations and charities to reach various categories of displaced persons and refugees, and alleviating suffering within society.
Mr. Al-Kathiri highlighted the urgent need to provide aid and assistance to displaced families, particularly those affected by the terrorist Houthi militia's attacks in the battlefronts of North Lahj and Al-Dhale'a governorates, calling for solidarity with these displaced persons, alleviating their suffering, and providing them with the necessary aid in coordination with local authorities in both governorates.
Al-Kathiri has lauded the United Nations for its ongoing efforts and pivotal role in providing aid and assistance to our people as they grapple with the dire living conditions brought about by the current circumstances facing the country, reiterating the STC's commitment to cooperate through the Department of International Organizations and Human Rights at the General Authority and work jointly with all UN and international organizations to alleviate the suffering of citizens and improve overall conditions.
The meeting was attended by the Head of Public Relations at the General Authority for Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of the STC, Mr. Waddah Saif Mohsen, and Mr. Aseel Mohammed Ahmed, Deputy Head of the Department of International Organizations and Human Rights Affairs at the Authority.
