President Aidarous Qassem Al-Zubaidi, President of the Southern Transitional Council (STC) and Vice Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council (PLC), chaired on Tuesday a joint meeting of the Executive Office and the Security Committee in the Socotra Archipelago Governorate, in the presence of Eng. Ra'afat Al-Thaqali, governor of Socotra, and several government ministers.
President Al-Zubaidi, in remarks during the meeting, lauded the efforts of the local authority officials and its executive offices in managing the affairs of the archipelago, despite the many challenges and difficulties facing the country and its newly announced status as a governorate.
The President commended the efforts made to promote stability and maintain security in Socotra, emphasizing that these factors represent a significant opportunity to make the archipelago a model to be emulated in the fields of security, administration, and development.
President Al-Zubaidi also pointed out that there are numerous successful global experiences that can be leveraged in governance, development, and enhancing the efficiency of public work, which would positively impact the lives of citizens in Socotra.
The president highlighted the importance of harnessing the potential of young talents and well-qualified persons in the development process, as well as encouraging local and international investments across various sectors, particularly in tourism, environment, and infrastructure, especially in the fields of tourism, environment, and infrastructure, given Socotra's strategic location and unique natural resources that make it a global tourist destination.
President Al-Zubaidi reiterated the support of the PLC for the efforts of the local authority in strengthening stability and enhancing the administrative and financial autonomy of the governorate to enable it to manage the affairs more efficiently and effectively.
At the end of the remarks, President Al-Zubaidi expressed his gratitude and appreciation to the Arab Coalition countries, led by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, for their active role in supporting development efforts in Socotra and their provision of humanitarian and service assistance, which has contributed to promoting stability and improving the living conditions of the archipelago's residents.
Governor Eng. Ra'afat Al-Thaqali opened the meeting with a speech in which he welcomed President Al-Zubaidi and his accompanying delegation, expressing his pride in this visit, which reflects the leadership's commitment to following up on the situation in Socotra and closely finding out about the concerns and aspirations of its people.
Eng. Al-Thaqali pointed out that the local authority is making significant efforts under the current circumstances but faces numerous challenges that require additional support from the government and the PLC, particularly in infrastructure and basic services.
The directors of the executive offices in the governorate highlighted the key challenges they face, including limited resources, insufficient operational budgets, and delays in the implementation and completion of several developmental and service projects, and the need for further support in the health and education sectors to ensure the conducting of high-quality services to the residents of the archipelago.
At the end of the meeting, President Al-Zubaidi directed the relevant ministries and government authorities to follow up on the urgent issues raised during the discussions and to work on finding prompt solutions within the available resources.
