The Supreme Committee for Sovereign and Local Resources convened its third meeting today, Sunday, headed by President Aidarous Qassem Al-Zubaidi, President of the Southern Transitional Council (STC), Vice Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council (PLC), and Chairman of the Committee.
In the beginning of its meeting, the committee stood before a range of decisions and assignments included in the minutes of the previous meeting, the level of implementation by the concerned authorities, and the reasons that led to hindering certain assignments.
The committee then listened to a briefing from Prime Minister Dr. Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak about the financial situation of the government, its existing obligations towards internal and external parties, and its procedures related to the preparation of the country's public budget for the year 2024.
In addition to that, the meeting discussed a number of measures taken by the members of the committee to activate the performance of revenue sectors, foremost of which is re-opening Aden Refinery at a minimum capacity as a first phase, as it is a vital government economic facility, and possible facilities to encourage and attract importers through the ports of the liberated governorates, as well as possible ways to benefit from the experience of the Revenue Development Center in the capital, Aden, in electronically collecting local and joint revenues and circulating them to the rest of the governorates.
Furthermore, the meeting reviewed the procedures that must be followed to rationalize spending, reform the administrative and financial system in state institutions, strengthen control over economic sectors, and approve the appropriate assignments in such regard.
At the end of the meeting, President Al-Zubaidi gave directives to the Prime Minister to instruct the Ministry of Legal Affairs and Human Rights to prepare a regulation that organizes the work of the Supreme Committee for Sovereign and Local Resources in light of the entrusted tasks and jurisdictions and its organizational structure, including the sub-committees or technical teams to be formed within the committee, to be discussed and approved at the next meeting.
