Mr. Ali Abdullah Al-Kathiri, Acting President of the Southern Transitional Council (STC) and Chairman of the National Assembly, met on Monday with Mr. Abu Bakr Salem Ba-Obaid, head of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI) in the capital, Aden.
During the meeting, Mr. Al-Kathiri was briefed on the workflow of the CCI, its efforts to continue the commercial and maritime movement and import of goods through the port of Aden and land and air ports, the difficulties facing merchants and importers, and ways that can contribute to addressing such challenges in coordination with the Ministry of Transport and Port administrations and the security and customs authorities.
Al-Kathiri also reviewed the efforts exerted by the CCI Administration in industrial development and expanding the scope of investment and free trade for a stable and prosperous economy in the future of the South, despite the challenges of the local currency collapsing, the high cost of insurance on commercial ships, and customs shipping, which reflected negatively on the value of goods and commodities.
The Acting President of the STC lauded the efforts of the CCI in reviving the commercial movement in the capital, Aden, despite the obstacles, underscoring the necessity of creating an attractive environment for investment, activating the commercial movement, and addressing all the complexities that may negatively affect merchants from importing goods.
Al-Kathiri asserted that the STC will surely remain on the lookout for whoever may try to harm or tamper with the port of Aden and will definitely provide all facets of support to facilitate the CCI’s work tasks at all levels.
