President Aidarous Qassem Al-Zubaidi, President of the Southern Transitional Council (STC) and Vice Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council (PLC), virtually met on Thursday with H.E. Abda Sharif, the UK Ambassador to Yemen.
The meeting discussed the escalating economic crisis and its repercussions on the humanitarian situation in the country, as well as its severe impact on living conditions and public services amid a lack of resources, the halt in oil and gas exports, the collapse in the currency exchange rate, skyrocketing prices, and the dramatic decline in public services, particularly electricity.
Both sides highlighted the importance of uniting local, regional, and international efforts to support the PLC and the government in activating vital economic resources, including key priorities of resuming oil and gas exports, revitalising other revenue-generating institutions, and ensuring that funds from various governorates are channelled to the central bank.
On the political front, both sides discussed the importance of collaboration with regional and international partners to strengthen the cohesiveness of the PLC. Moreover, they stressed the need for improved coordination between the Council, the government, and local authorities in the governorates to ensure unified decision-making and integrated efforts between various authorities at both the central and local levels.
The meeting was also attended by Mr. Mohammed Al-Ghaithi, a member of the STC's Presidium, head of the Consultation and Reconciliation Commission (CRC) supporting the PLC, as well as Mr. Imad Mohammed, office director of the Vice President of the PLC.
