President Aidarous Qassem Al-Zubaidi, President of the Southern Transitional Council (STC) and Vice Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council (PLC), has met on Thursday with H.E. Jorge Hevia, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Spain to Yemen.
The meeting, which was attended by Ms. Ana Fernández-Tresguerres, Deputy Ambassador, reviewed the bilateral relations with the Kingdom of Spain and ways to strengthen and develop them.
The meeting discussed the latest developments in the political and humanitarian situation in the country and the future of endeavors led by the UN Special Envoy for Yemen to bring about peace amid ongoing Houthi escalation against international shipping lanes in the Red Sea, Bab al-Mandab, and the Gulf of Aden. Such escalation poses serious risks to peace efforts and exacerbates the humanitarian crisis in the country that has already been devastated by the war the Houthi militias ignited in 2015.
The meeting touched on the regional and international efforts to support our people and alleviate the humanitarian suffering they face amid a worsening economic crisis caused by the war and the Houthi militias’ targeting of vital economic facilities, primarily oil and gas export ports.
At the end of the meeting, the Spanish ambassador reaffirmed his country's commitment to supporting international efforts aimed at ending the humanitarian crisis, bringing about peace, and promoting security and stability in the country, and its readiness to contribute to development and reconstruction projects and the fields of education and culture within the EU framework.
