President Aidarous Al-Zubaidi, President of the Southern Transitional Council (STC) and Vice Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council (PLC), received on Saturday evening the US Special Envoy to Yemen, Mr. Tim Lenderking.
The meeting reviewed the regional and international endeavors aimed at ending the war and bringing peace to the country and the initiatives proposed for a Yemeni-led solution. In this regard, President Al-Zubaidi reaffirmed the support of the STC and the PLC for those efforts, stressing the importance of reaching a comprehensive ceasefire and engaging in a comprehensibe and inclusive political process without setting preconditions to address all central issues, prioritizing the cause of the people of the South.
Furthermore, the meeting discussed the latest political, economic, and humanitarian developments in light of the continued military escalation of the Houthi militias on various fronts, and in this context, President Al-Zubaidi affirmed that the Houthi militias took advantage of the undeclared truce to mobilize their fighters to the fronts and consolidate dominance over resources and revenues in their controlled areas to enhance the war effort of their elements.
President Al-Zubaidi pointed out that the PLC has made many concessions to enhance the chances of reaching a lasting peace, while the Houthi militias continue their intransigence and rejection of all efforts aimed at ending the conflict and bringing peace to the region.
President Al-Zubaidi appreciated the role of the USA in supporting the efforts of the PLC to carry out the entrusted tasks, asserting in the context the STC's keenness on the unity and cohesiveness of the PLC, and highlighting the importance of expediting the announcement of the joint negotiating team in which the STC positively participates in the negotiating process.
For his part, the US Special Envoy reiterated the position of his government in support of ending the war and starting a comprehensive peace process that accommodates various issues, as well as his support for the unity and cohesiveness of the PLC to carry out the assigned tasks.
