Al-Ghaithi to Group of 18: Repressing demonstrations in Shabwa is flagrant violation of international law and undermines chances of implementing the Riyadh Agreement

Mohammad Al-Ghaithi, Head of the General Directorate of Foreign Affairs of the Southern Transitional Council, sent a written message to the ambassadors of the 18 countries sponsoring the political process in Yemen, regarding the brutal attacks against civilians that took place in Shabwa by the Yemeni forces that control the governorate.

Al-Ghaithi stressed that these extremist and irresponsible practices represent a flagrant violation of all international and humanitarian laws and norms, and prove the fact that the other side has undermined all opportunities for implementing the Riyadh Agreement, noting that ignoring the right of the people of the South to express their opinion, not to mention determining their future and self-determination, is complicating the means of comprehensive peaceful political solution.

Al-Ghaithi called for condemning this heinous criminal acts, and the need to put in place deterrent measures for such irresponsible terrorist practices, as his letter included full details of the names of the wounded and arrested civilians.
