Chairman of National Assembly meets members of Calming Committee for Military Situations in South

Major General Ahmed Saeed Ben Brik, Chairman of the National Assembly of the Southern Transitional Council, met on Wednesday at the assembly’s headquarter, the Calming Committee for Military Situations in the South, represented by Major General Fadl Hassan Mohammad Al-Omari, Commander of the Fourth Military Region, and Brigadier Thabet Muthanna Jawas, Commander of the Anad Axis, Commander of the 131st Brigade Infantry, head of the committee, with attendance of Major Salem Abdullah Al-Socotri, Assistant Secretary-General of the Presidency of the Transitional Council and lawyer Niran Sooki, Vice- Chairman of the National Assembly.

The meeting listened to the report of the calming committee with its preliminary summary of meeting on Tuesday with the commanders of the legitimacy brigades in Shokra region of Abyan governorate.

The meeting was divided into two sessions, the first was devoted to listening and exchanging views between the two sides, while during the second session the principles of the agreement were formulated.

The members of the calming committee reviewed the contents of the meeting of the Presidency of the Transitional Council with the committee, and it was agreed on the necessity to show goodwill by the other side and its commitment to calm and not to escalate military and media, and to stop the military build-up and field provocations and not to resort to violence, and to open channels of communication between the two sides, to create the appropriate climate to start implementing the terms of the Riyadh Agreement, in addition to agreeing to hold a joint meeting during the next two days at the headquarter of the Arab Coalition forces.

The meeting also discussed the summary presented by the committee, regarding the formation of the four-party committees with four of the leadership of the Transitional Council and in the presence of the calming committee, whose main objective is to reduce the escalation.

The meeting also affirmed the importance of moving towards representing the Riyadh Agreement through committees that were previously identified, and stopped its work due to the delay in implementing the military and political parts.

The meeting pointed out that there is a tendency to conduct consultations to sit at the dialogue table and agree on a final solution to end the existing conflict and resolve the southern issue, so that all parties in Riyadh agree upon it.

Maj. Gen. Ben Brik asserted that the leadership of the Southern Transitional Council is committed to the directives of the ceasefire, and in regard to good intentions, the leadership of the Transitional Council welcomes all southern brothers in all political and social components, parties and spectrums, including southerners of legitimacy, to pour all ideas and proposals and solutions in the interest of the southern issue.

The meeting agreed that the leadership of the Fourth Military Region, along with the Calming Committee as an advisory body, should ensure the formation of two bodies to monitor the lines of contact and monitor any suspicious violations or movements.

The meeting was attended by Dr. Abdul Nasser Al-Wali, Brigadier Ali Nasser Al-Shaybah, Dr. Mona Basharahil, Ameen Saleh, members of the Presidency of the Southern Transitional Council, and Ambassador Qasim Askar, Head of the Foreign Relations Committee of the National Assembly and Brigadier Nasser Ahmed Huwaider, Head of the Defense Committee in the National Assembly, and Vice-Chairman Security Committee of the National Assembly, Major General Mohammad Ali Hadi.

For the calming committee the attendants were Major General Saleh Ali Zangal, Head of the Military Authority, Brigadier General Ali Mansour Al Walidi, Director of the Moral Guidance Department, Major General Mohammad Haitham Qasim, and Major General Mohammed Saeed Saleh.
