Economic Team of Transitional Council meets leadership of Chamber of Commerce and Medicines Authority

The Economic Team of the Southern Transitional Council held on Wednesday, an extended meeting with the Chamber of Commerce and Industry in the capital, Aden, and the High Authority for Medicines, headed by Dr. Abdul Salam Humaid, advisor to the President of the Transitional Council for Economic Affairs.

In the meeting, Dr. Abdul Salam Humaid praised the leadership of the Chamber of Commerce in the capital Aden, represented by its president, Mr.  Abubakr Baobaid, and the High Authority for Medicines represented by its CEO Dr. Abdel Qader Al-Bakri, and their response to the invitation to attend this meeting to stand in front of the challenges facing the country in light of the global economic changes left by the spread of the Corona virus.

Humaid stressed on the importance of providing an adequate buffer stock of medicine and food, especially basic needs such as wheat, rice, sugar, and infant milk for a period of no less than three months, stressing also on the need to sit with key merchants and importers, and coordinate with them to keep a share of their stock in Aden and the south, to provide society's commodity needs.

On his part, Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Dali, Advisor to the President of the Transitional Council for Foreign Affairs, stressed on the importance of providing a stockpile of food and medicine to secure the citizens needs for the necessary goods.

Al-Dali pointed out to the necessity of studying and knowing the size of the stock of food and medicine in light of the abstention of many countries from exporting goods due to the circumstances of the pandemic of Corona virus.

For his part, Mr. Abubakr Baobaid, President of the Chamber of Commerce in Aden the capital, valued the great efforts made by the economic team in the Transitional Council in light of this pandemic that hits the world.

Baobaid stressed that the current situation in Aden and the south needs everyone to unite away from political rivalries, noting to the importance of developing a comprehensive plan of action to address the pandemic, and ensuring the provision of food and drug stocks in the event of its spread.

On the other hand, Dr. Abdel-Qader Al-Bakri, Executive Director of the High Authority for Medicines, reassured the citizens that there is sufficient stock of essential medicines sufficient for a year to come, calling on everyone not to panic over the fear of its lack.

The meeting concluded by emphasizing on the importance of holding a meeting with the merchants and urging them to import medicine and food, and agreeing with those concerned to determine Aden's share of the food and drug stocks.

The meeting also stressed on the importance of coordinating with the relevant authorities to postpone customs costs and taxes on merchants and schedule them to facilitate the import of goods in these exceptional circumstances.
