The Secretary-General discusses ways to tackle oil spills in the fishing port of Aden the capital

The Secretary-General of the Presidency of the Southern Transitional Council, Mr. Ahmed Hamed Lamlas, met on Wednesday in the capital Aden with the Director General of Environmental Monitoring at the Environmental Protection Authority, Dr. Walid Al-Shuaibi, and Mr. Zaki Mohammad Ali, Head of the Marine Biology and Fisheries Department of the Marine Science Research Authority, and the environmental expert, Mohammed Abdullah Saad.

The meeting discussed the damages caused by the oil spills resulting from the sinking of the ship "Hanan" in the fishing port in the capital Aden, and the suggestions submitted to treat it, praising the efforts of the Marine Science Research Authority and the General Authority for Environmental Protection to address the effects of the leakage by tracking and monitoring environmental damage and ways to protect the environment and wealth of the south.

The Secretary-General stressed on the need to work together to combat the spread of oils and work to be confined in a limited area and work to be removed, assuring the support of the Transitional Council for any efforts in this aspect.

The Secretary-General warned of an environmental catastrophe in the future because of the presence of about 23 fishing vessels parked for more than 15 years, most of them exposed to drowning, as they contain large quantities of fuel and oils.
