The Legal Department Organizes a Workshop for the Southern Trade Unions

  The Legal Department of the Southern Transitional Council (STC) organized on Saturday morning, a workshop in the capital Aden entitled ((The future of trade unions and means to activate them and develop them)) with the participation of representatives of the various trade union of the South.

  The head of The STC Legal Department, Dr. Suheir Ali Ahmed delivered the welcome speech in which she conveyed the greetings of the president of the Southern Transitional Council, Major General Aidroos Qasim al-Zubaidi, emphasizing the Council's attention to the important role played by the trade unions in building and maintaining state-run institutions, adding that The significance of this workshop resides in raising awareness among trade union members on the concepts, principles and laws of the syndical work that characterized the city of Aden for a long time.

Dr. Suheir Ali Ahmed expressed her gratitude to those who helped in the organization of this workshop, especially, the academic in the Faculty of Law - University of Aden, Sami Ba'abad, the legal advisor. Heba Al-Aidarous and all the other contributors in the workshop.

For his part, Sami Ba'abad provide a general picture of the concept of the syndical work and the legal definitions of the union in some Arab and foreign countries and the difference between trade associations and other organizations illustrated with real examples.

The workshop also touched on the classification of trade unions and the historical development of trade union activity in Aden, where appeared the first trade union in the Arabian Peninsula.

The workshop reviewed the legal texts in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) and the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR), in addition to the constitutions and legislation that affirm the right to form trade unions and the exercise of syndical work and the conditions and procedures to be followed to acquire legal status and enjoy the rights and obligations.

The workshop included a discussion on today's situation of trade unions and the obstacles in public institutions and their impact on the performance of institutional work and workers' rights.

The participants expressed their happiness regarding this good initiative of the Southern Transitional Council, affirming that the workshop explained to them a lot of legal concepts and principles of syndical work and the elements that must be satisfied to be a union member, especially to the newly joined members to this field.

It is worth noting that this workshop is part of the interactive activity of the STC Legal Department to raise awareness in the society about legal aspects.
